Thank you to all our volunteers who came out to help! Mother Nature's cooperation on Saturday morning, July 31st, was greatly appreciated by the more than a dozen volunteers that showed up at Beaumont Middle School (BMS) to help cleanup the grounds around the school. Instead of temps well into the nineties forecasted just a few days before, the overcast skies and temps in the upper 60's were ideal for working outside. The work session was facilitated by the BMS PTA ( little shout out to John Thomas for directing efforts) with a helping hand from BWNA.
Crews with mowers, edgers , pruners, and garden tools tools spread out over the grounds and filled countless bags that really made a difference in more ways than one. A twenty-year alum of BMS stopped and chatted for a brief time with volunteers, reminiscing on his days at the school and thanking them for their efforts. A few neighbors who hadn't had an opportunity to interact since the pandemic started used the outside event to catch up with each other and make new acquaintances.
Portland Public Schools has contracted out the landscaping needed on the main planting bed located on NW corner of 42nd and Fremont, but the rest of the grounds will be handled only through volunteer effort. While making much progress during our first session, more sessions are being planned before students arrive on campus. Watch for notices through PTA and BWNA for timing of the next work sessions!
